Harvard Square Theater

Harvard Square Theater, Corner of Mass. Ave. & Church St. (10 Church St.)

On May 9, 1974, influential music critic Jon Landau watched newcomer Bruce Springsteen play a concert at the Harvard Square Theater. In its aftermath, Landau wrote: “I saw rock and roll’s future and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” The following year, the Theater hosted Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue featuring Joan Baez, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Bob Neuwirth among others. The Revue tour took place in 1975-76 and garnered much media attention due to new material from Dylan, duets between Dylan and Baez, and appearances (occasionally unannounced) from some of Dylan’s friends, such as Allen Ginsberg and Joni Mitchell.
